Guardians of the Past
Male moon elf priest of Corellon from Silverymoon.
Saedellas has always been a random person. Even as a child he would wander off, sometimes staying gone for days at a time. In that respect he is a lot like his father, Lodellas.
Lodellas was a fighter and an adventurer. He has had many adventures over his hundred or so years as an adventurer. In that time he had many one night stands and has fathered many children. When he finally had to retire from adventuring and come back to his hometown of Silverymoon, it was not because of a desire to continue. He had lost his right arm in a failed attempt to clear out a den of hobgoblins in the High Forest. The hobgoblins had set up an ambush deep in their den and went after Sano of Lathander first. With the loss of the party’s cleric, the fight turned bad quickly. Hazora, an elven mage, cast a barrage of spells and was turning the tide back in the party’s favor when a lucky arrow shot hit her in the throat and she was unable to voice anymore spells. Klandal Stonebeard, a dwarven warrior, and Turnoc Redleaf, a human ranger of Silvanus, as well as Lodellas covered the retreat as Jemini Jeweledhands helped Hazora back up the tunnels and to where the horses were tied. Klandal went into berserker frenzy and charged the hobgoblins. He killed eight before finally falling from the barrage of blows from hobgoblin spears. Lodellas and Turnoc made a fighting withdrawal back to entrance where they met up with Jemini and Hazora who had brought the horses. The Hobgoblin chieftain furiously charged and impaled himself to the hilt on Lodellas’ blade. With his dying breath, he swung his war axe and severed Lodellas’ weapon arm at the shoulder. As they were riding away, an arrow hit Turnoc in the side. The damage was severe but he would live. Such were the events that led to the end of the Sword Coast Company.
When Lodellas returned to Silverymoon in 1341, he returned to a family that he did not know he had. Arshen Nightstar, a barmaid at a tavern he had spent one evening with nearly a hundred years earlier had a son she said was his. Arshen still had strong feelings for Lodellas and she was more than happy to take him in and tend to his wounds. Money was never really an issue for them because Lodellas had been saving to construct a fortress in the High Forest when his plans were cut short.
Saedellas had been raised by his mother and his uncle Onothalas. Saedellas spent most of his early life hanging at the tavern where his mother works. He learned to play the bahran, poetry and to sing. He got quite good at it and was able to help supplement the family income. Periodically an adventuring group would wander in and Saedellas would be enthralled at the tales of their exploits. They were always happy to share their stories because Saedellas would turn them into an enchanting song of excitement and adventure, which got the adventurers quite a few free drinks from other patrons.
Onothalas is a hunter and spent a lot of time with Saedellas. He would take Saedellas deep into the woods on hunting trips. He taught Saedellas how to make and shoot bows as well as how to recognize medicinal herbs and tan the hides of their prey. Saedellas caught on fast but was far from a prized pupil. He refused to shoot any of the game they would find and frequently would scare the animals away so that Onothalas would miss. Eventually Onothalas had to stop bringing Saedellas into the woods.
Saedellas seemed to have a natural empathy for animals. Saedellas had a natural pragmatism to him. He did not have a problem eating the flesh of an animal that had been hunted for food or using the animals’ remains, but he refused to take part in taking the life of an animal for profit. He seemed almost destined to be a druid. As time passed Saedellas began to train in the use of the sword and shield. He also saved money from odd jobs in the stables and on farms to purchase a suit of chain mail. He was beginning to look a lot less like a druid and more like a warrior now. His training paid off one evening while Onothalas was out hunting as bandits attacked several houses on the outskirts of town. Saedellas was the first to arrive on the scene and scored a kill shot with his first arrow. He dropped another bandit before they could engage in melee with him. When the guard arrived, Saedellas was engaged with three bandits. Once the guard arrived, the bandits were all either killed or captured. Arshen was terrified upon discovering that her son had been in a fight with bandits, but Saedellas was excited. Saedellas decided to become an adventurer. Arshen would hear nothing of that and took him to the Temple of Corellon Larethian
Saedellas, being the random person he is, took to the priesthood quickly. He was a natural and finally found his calling.
